Uber and Lyft Safety Precautions | Attorney Javier Marcos

Uber and Lyft Safety Precautions | Attorney Javier Marcos | 713.999.4444

We never really think that it could be us, but it is not unheard of. Accidents and crimes that take place due to these ridesharing apps. Considering the number of crimes and accidents that have taken place in Uber and Lyft. It is always a good idea to take some precautions. So here are some Uber and Lyft safety precautions for ridesharing apps that you must remember to avoid any unusual activities.

Wait for Your Ride at Safe Locations

Always ensure that your pickup point is some place that is surrounded by at least a little bit of a crowd. Yet not in a heavily crowded area, as this can make it difficult for the driver to find you. In case you’re travelling during evening or nighttime, wait in an area that is well-lit and feels safe.

Additionally, it is always smart to be picked up or dropped off a block or two before your house. Since it is never a good idea to share your address with strangers under any circumstances.

Verify the Uber and Lyft Driver

There were at least two dozen reported attacks that took place in the last few years due to people getting into the wrong cab by mistakenly assuming it as their ride. These attacks don’t just include mugging, sexual assault, but also a very infamous murder.

The sad part is that all of these incidents could have been avoided if the passenger had verified that ride. And checked the car model, license plate, and whether the picture of the driver in the app matches the person in front of them. An additional thing you can do is ask the driver to verify your name before getting into the car.

Get in the Back Seat

Whenever riding alone, always sit in the backseat of the car, preferably behind the passenger seat. Not only does this give personal space to you as well as your driver. But it also ensures that you can safely get out of either side of the car.

If you are asked by the driver to sit on the front seat, it is better that you avoid getting into the cab altogether. Since even the drivers consider this a huge red flag.

Always Share Your Ride Details

Uber and Lyft apps have an option which allows you to share your live location with a trusted contact. All you have to do is click “Share Trip Status” on the Uber app, or “Share Route” on Lyft, and pick a friend so they could know where you are in real time.

Another thing you can do is make a phone call as soon as you get into the car, informing them about your ride and driver details and that you will be reaching your destination at an estimated time. This almost puts the responsibility on your driver to get you there on time. Because they know they’ll be in danger if you don’t make it safely.

These are just some of the precautions that will help you avoid unwanted events when you travel through these ridesharing apps.
